1st grade 2007-2008

summer start

Well, my summer has had an interesting start. We really don't have any major plans for our summer. PJ and I are mostly excited to have the opportunity to do some sleeping in.

EARLY Saturday we went to the city to watch my nephew Kyler play in a baseball tournament. He is awesome at baseball. It's way fun to watch. We also fit some shopping in of course! I could tell on Sunday that I was getting a Migraine. I get them sooo bad. Not very often, but bad ones! Well sure enough... We got home around 10pm and I was feeling fine. I started cleaning up, putting my goods away, etc. In the middle of the night I was up sooo sick and making out with the Porcelain throne. (aka: my toilet) It was a sucky way to start off my summer vaca.

Yesterday was my official last day of work. I had to go in to meet with grade level teams, review year end scores, clean up our rooms, etc. I had to call it a day before everyone else becasue I was still feeling gross. I pretty much slept the rest of the day.

Today I feel much better, but not exactly great yet. I DID finally get to sleep in a little. By the way, sleeping in for us is like 7:30-8:00. I decided to start my summer off with a clean fresh house. I have seriously been "spring cleaning" all day long. I still have to take small breaks to rest here and there, but the house is feeling much better. My bathroom took me 2 hours. I mean I CLEANED! I took out all the dirty window screens and soaked them in a bath, mopped floors, I even waxed the furniture! Don't worry, I still have to move up stairs to my room. It is the worst. I have been throwing everything up there to get it out of my way down here.
Can I also say that laundry sucks today! My sisters always make fun of me because I am the laundry queen. My laundry is always done, folded and put away as soon as it hits the basket. That last week of school I didn't do one single load of laundry! So needless to say, I've also been doing major laundry here today too! The reason I decided to take a break from cleaning while I'm on such a roll is because of this...

Seriously, I am maxed out here! This is bordering rediculous! I can't fit one more item into this closet! I've already packed up the winter sweaters! And if you look close you will see that Jory has like half of one side and the top part and floor. The rest of his side is my skirts and coats. I have started to make my get rid of pile on my bed...

I just want the world to know that this is the sickness I get from my mother. She has sooo many clothes and shoes. The sad thing is that I'm sitting here wearing sweats. So if you are in need of some clothes or know of someone go ahead and let me know. Well, I better get back to work! Jory will chew me out if this mess is on our bed when he's ready to pass out for the night!

No more pencils. No more books. No more teacher's dirty looks!

About 6 hours ago I was a mother of 24. Today was the last day of school and I am the biggest baby in the entire world. I have been so ready for summer believe me, but it is so bitter sweet to say goodbye to kids that you have spent the past 180 days with. If you think about it, teachers spend more "awake" time with kids than their own parents. I have had another really great class this year. (even with 7 MORE kids than last year!) I also had the opportunity to have little PJ in my class. I am so glad we will have the memories of this year.

I can't believe how far I have come. I just finished my third year teaching! My first year in fourth grade and now two years of first grade behind me. After my first year I wasn't sure that I could handle too many years of teaching. Last year I had a dream class and I didn't want to let them go. I didn't think I could have two great classes in a row. I sure did! Last week we had step-up day and I got to meet the tiny little Kindergarteners that will be in my class next year. And you know what? It looks like my luck has continued. I have had some awesome students and have seen many outstanding families. Just look for yourself at how they have spoiled me today...

Isn't that so nice? It seriously took me six trips to load all the flowers, lotions, candles and candy into my car.

Yesterday I had a little awards ceremony and I just started crying. These kids have made some major accomplishments this year. They have worked their little bottoms off! Last week we had our year end program and they did so awesome. I was the proud mom for all of them. First grade is so much work, but I really think it is the most rewarding. These kids came in babies that couldn't even read and now many of them are reading chapter books. It is so amazing! I love my job. I love getting to be the biggest fan for all of these kids. I thank all of you who allow me to be your children's teacher. I love them so much. It has been a great year!

Love you Brennen, Beaudee, Taylor, Damian, Randon, Zay, Carinna, Kasen, Alex, Ben, PJ, Zaida, Ani, Destinie, Tray, Brex, Noah, Abby, Morgan, Hannah, Shane, Dallen, Faith and Karsen! Have a fun summer! Yea!
